Kidd began his NBA head coaching career with the Brooklyn Nets in 2020, immediately tasked with leading the team after the departure of Kenny Atkinson. In his first season, he guided the Nets to a 44-38 record and the Eastern Conference semifinals, where they were eliminated by the eventual champion Milwaukee Bucks.
After two seasons with the Nets, Kidd was traded to the Bucks in February 2022 for a package that included a first-round draft pick.
In his first full season with the Bucks, Kidd led the team to a 51-31 record and the Eastern Conference title, where they lost to the Boston Celtics in the NBA Finals. He was named the NBA Coach of the Year for the 2022-23 season.
